Family and Firm: Strategies of Sustainable Development of Family Firms in Intergenerational Perspective

The training programme Family and Firm: Strategies of Sustainable Development of Family Firms in Intergenerational Perspective has been designed to prepare family members to the role of family firm leaders. This goal will be realized by teaching about the strategies of family firms, their strong and weak sides, specificity of decision making processes, methods of aniticipating and solving conflicts and other factors crucial for the success of family firms.

Successful family firms need to develop professional qualities of their members in order to add to the family cohesion all key competences without which there is no sustainable family firm.

General outline of the training programme

  • Module for analyzing the strategies of family firms;
  • Module about interlocked cycles of family life and the firm development cycle;
  • Module about legal framework for family firms and financial dimension of their development;
  • Module about mentoring.

  • Capacity to full comprehend conditions and key strategic decisions important both for the firm and family;
  • Capacity to analyze the conditions of the firm and to design strategies which lead to its sustainable development;
  • The development of the ability to anticipate critical moments In the development of the firm and to develop its adaptation capacities.

Target participants

The training programme has been especially designed and is appropriate for master level students who come from families of family firm owners and managers.

The training programme will be integrated with other higher education study programmes in such a way as to become the basis for regular study programmes destined for family firms.

Method

An intense interaction between the programme’s participants and instructors;

Empirical orientation, focus on problem solving, openness to individual needs and experiences of participants;

Reference to case studies written based on facts and real problems of family firms.

Organization

The pilot training programme will be held in 2 two day sessions in March and April 2016 for a group of maximum 16 students coming from business families and being student of a master level in one of higher education institutions.
